The blog hasn’t been updated for nine month! What have I been doing? Here is the answer. This summary of activities was originally prepared to be submitted for my supervisors as a proff that I am not waisting my timeback home. The version posted here is slightly modified.
A Summary of Activities
2008 July-September
1. Completion and submission of the Country Report: The Governance of New Emerging Technologies in Taiwan for the Knowledge NBIC Project.
2. Presented my PhD research in the Prepsctive from the Periphery, the ISA RCHS Conference in Umea, Sweden, 21-24 August.
(Retuned to Taipei)
3. In cooperation with Prof Chang Mau-Kwei, I wrote the proposal for the joint book project Pathways of Sociology in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. This project aims at invite contributors from the three places to sketch their respective histories of sociology for a comparative analysis.
2008 October- December
4. Welcoming a new member of my family (the biggest project ever!)
5. Presented the paper ‘Knowledge Politics and the Emerging Technologies in Taiwan: Governance Framework, Institutional Gaps and Historical Context’ in both the Hong Kong Sociological Association annual conference (7 Dec) and the Taiwan Sociological Association’s Annual Meeting (13-14 Dec)
6. Organized the first workshop for the Pathway project, in which I did a presentation of our research plan to invite discussion among the nine contributors invited from the three places and Macao, as well as four leading Taiwanese sociologists as discussant. My roles in its preparation also include locating and contacting prospective contributors, designing the workshop and coordinating the administrative works.
2009 January-March
7. Invited to write two articles to be published on the TSA Newsletter (65th Issue)
– Imaging an International Node vs. Cultivating the Domestic Dialogues: A Participatory Note on the 2008 HKSA & TSA Annual Conferences, p 24-29. (想像國際節點vs. 厚植本土對話:2008 港台社會學年會參與後記)

8. Initiated Seminar Synergy 2009, a biweekly seminar workshop based on the Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica. The workshop blog host an archive the abstracts of previous presentations.
9. Joined the organizing team for the 2009 ISA Conference of the Council of National Association held in Taipei. The program committee was chaired by Michael Burawoy and there were 60 delegates representing the national sociological associations in 43 countries in this conference. I wrote the booklet Taipei in One Day: Historical and Sociological Perspectives as a supplementary to the delegates’ city tour and I eventually took the role as their tour guide.
